Sustainability and SME’s.

Who is this for?

Sustainability is an important issue not just in terms of global warming and carbon footprint but in all aspects of humanity’s input to the environment. Many companies both large and small together with central and local government are insisting on their trading partners having ‘good green credentials’.

What results should you expect?

The aim of this programme is to deliver

  • Improved asset performance (i.e. the buildings)
  • Improvements in the management of the buildings
  • Improvements in the organisational efficiency

Areas that could be covered

The programme will target some or all of the following areas:

  • Energy
  • Water
  • Materials and waste
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Pollution
  • Transport
  • Land use and ecology
  • Action Planning

Methodology

The Building Research Establishment (BRE) has established international standards for environmental assessments. With the acronym BREEAM these standards have been used to rate new buildings for several years, but a revised version, ‘BREEAM In Use’, is now available.

The assessment can be carried out on line by company personnel but a licensed BREEAM In Use Auditor will need to be appointed to verify the assessment and issue the certificate. This certificate enables the building or buildings owner or occupants to gain recognition for the buildings environmental performance ‘In Use’. Completing the assessment will enable building managers to reduce the running costs and improve the environmental performance of existing buildings. The assessment is relevant to all non-domestic commercial, industrial, retail and institutional buildings.

SGBA has a licensed BREEAM In Use Auditor in their ranks, thus adding another service available from this group of highly experienced business advisors. BREEAM In Use Auditors can give support and advice to help their clients with the self assessment process.

Costs

The initial review is free.

Costs for subsequent phases of the programme vary depending on the objectives but each phase will be costed and the expected results quantified before moving forward.
